After last night's show that featured some very odd song choices, I predict the bottom three will be Jacob, Haley, and Casey - with Jacob's "journey" ending tonight.
Babyface was an outstanding mentor - the best so far this year - he actually gave constructive criticism. He clearly knows what he is talking about and more importantly, how to communicate it. Iovine remains a fantastic addition to the show. Buy your Beats headphones everyone!
James extended his lead with a stunning version of "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow" that was part Amy Winehouse and part restrained Axl Rose. Scotty avoided his sometimes campy low register with "You've got a Friend" in a way that emphasized the lyrics. Lauren charmed her way through, "If you lead, I will follow." This song, which was used as the theme for the Gilmore Girls TV show, is not one of King's best - and a poor song choice. But Lauren turned on the charm, and made it work better than the bottom three.
Haley and Jacob would have been better served singing something more familiar than the songs they chose. And Casey, entertaining as he was, basically talked his way through the evening's most obscure song choice which unfortunately involved more grunts and growls. Casey is better served singing a melody. It was great they saved him, he's had some lovely performances, but he's about to growl himself into hibernation.
As I have pointed out here many times, the song's the thing and it is no surprise that the evening's two big winners, Scotty and James, simply picked the best songs.
And the judges? Well they loved everything again. They remain completely useless.
Am I right? Love your comments...
